How to choose a wobble stool

When choosing a wobble stool, consider the height of the workstation, the seat design and the range of movement you need. An adjustable ergonomic wobble stool should offer a height range that suits both the user and the work surface.

Check the minimum and maximum height, especially if you plan to use it as a standing desk stool or with a raised workstation. The selected height should let you place your feet on the floor or a footrest and use the work surface comfortably.

It is also worth checking the base. A balance stool with a tilting base allows controlled movement in different directions, while a fixed base provides a more stable sitting position. Some models also rotate through 360 degrees, making it easier to change direction.

You can pair a compatible sit-stand stool with our height-adjustable desks to create a workstation where you can switch between sitting, perching and standing.

Types of wobble and ergonomic stools

Wobble stools have a base that allows controlled rocking or tilting rather than keeping the seat completely static. The degree of movement varies depending on the design of the base.

Saddle-style models feature a seat inspired by a riding saddle. Their shape lets you position your legs differently from when using a conventional flat stool.

There are also adjustable ergonomic stools with padded seats and stable bases. These models are an alternative for users who want height adjustment but prefer less movement than a wobble stool provides.

Before buying, check the specifications of each product and consider the expected duration of use. An active sitting stool can be used as an alternative seat for certain tasks without necessarily replacing your main office chair.

Wobble stool or ergonomic chair

A wobble stool provides a compact seat and makes it easier to change position. It can suit specific tasks, height-adjustable desks and workstations where you alternate frequently between sitting and standing.

An ergonomic chair usually provides more extensive support and may include a backrest, lumbar support, armrests and different adjustments. It may therefore be more suitable as the main seat for prolonged work at a conventional desk.

Browse our ergonomic chairs if you need a main seat with a backrest and more adjustment options.

The two options can also be combined. A stool can be used as an alternative seat for certain tasks, while the chair is available when more extensive support is preferred. Our guide on how to maintain a correct sitting posture provides further guidance on setting up your workstation.
