How to choose an under-desk cable tray
Before choosing a cable tray for your desk, check the space available beneath the desktop, the number of connected devices and how frequently you will need to access the connections.
- Size and capacity: measure the available space and make sure the tray can hold the cables, adapters and extension leads you use.
- Access to cables: if you regularly connect or disconnect devices, choose a model with a side opening or hinged mechanism.
- Type of desk: check whether the tray is designed for individual desks, shared workstations or height-adjustable desks.
- Installation system: check the mounting method and make sure the desk frame will not obstruct installation.
Types of cable trays
Fixed cable trays
These provide a stable solution for desks with a permanent cable setup. They are particularly practical when equipment and connections are not changed frequently.
Extendable cable trays
Their length can be adjusted to suit different desk sizes. They are a versatile option for workstations whose configuration may change or which require more room for cable management.
Easy-access cable trays
Hinged models and trays with side openings provide easy access to extension leads and cables without removing the tray. This makes it easier to add, remove or rearrange connections.
Cable trays for fixed and height-adjustable desks
On a fixed desk, the tray is installed beneath the desktop so that cables remain contained without being bent or compressed. For shared or multi-user workstations, choose a tray with enough length and capacity for all the equipment.
If you use one of our height-adjustable desks, leave enough slack for the cables to follow the desk’s full height range without becoming taut. The tray should move with the desktop and keep the connections protected during movement.
